Jackie & Nick’s wedding was unlike any other I have been a part of, it was a wedding I will never forget. On Friday June 29th, WV was hit with a massive storm leaving close to 500,000 without power. Just as the bride & groom was preparing to sit around the campfire to toast S’mores, the warning came on the television. With about 10 minutes to take cover we all went to our rooms and waited to see what this storm would bring. The wind was so strong I thought the windows were going to break. We lost power and everyone was left in the dark. Despite the loss of power, the bride decided to have her scheduled party with her girls in her pitch black room. The staff at Soaring Eagle Lodge scrambled to get the halls and stairs lit, but neon glow bracelets didn’t quite get the job done. It was so dark at the resort you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. We all went to sleep that night wondering what we would do if the power didn’t return by the morning. I’m sure there were lots of prayers going up that night. When everyone woke up the next morning, the power was still out and there was no running water. Oh well the day must go on and it did. There was no power, no way to refrigerate food, no running water and no bathrooms. This storm left everyone thinking it was impossible to go on with the wedding, but this amazing bunch of kids their family & friends made it happen. The staff at Snowshoe Mountain & all the vendors did an amazing job! As I look back at the images, I never would have guessed they were celebrating during one of the states worst disasters. The smiles, laughter, tears… it was a beautiful wedding and I’m so excited to share it with everyone.
